- 1: In April 1953, the club's forward Tommy Taylor became one of the most expensive players in English football. Manchester United signed him for a fee of £29,999. On 6 February 1958, he lost his life in the Munich air disaster.
- 2: 1997/98 season was the only season which Barnsley lasted in Premier League. They finished 19th in the final table and were relegated back to Football League First Division.
- 3: On 30 September 2008, Reuben Noble-Lazarus was just 15 years and 45 days old, when he became the youngest player to debut in the English Football League.
