Controversial Call Aids Brazil in Copa America Opener

Brazil is one of the mainstays in international football, and a controversial call helped them avert defeat in their first match of the Copa America Centenario. Ecuador striker Miller Bolanos appeared to have put the ball into the net from a difficult angle along the end line late in the second half. However, the officials on the field disallowed the goal because the ball was played after it was ruled out of bounds. Neither team could generate another scoring opportunity, as the match ended in a scoreless tie.

Rooney Could Shine in Euro 16

England’s Wayne Rooney has been synonymous with international football since he burst onto the scene at Euro 04. At one point in his career, Rooney was considered to be playing on the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who are considered the top footballers in the world. Now, his skill level has diminished, but the hope is Rooney has enough left in the tank to revive his career at Euro 16. Rooney is England’s most prolific scorer in international competition, as he has scored 52 goals in 111 games. His fellow countrymen understand that the brilliance of Rooney cannot be measured in statistical numbers, but the way he plays for national glory and the love of the sport.

Ibrahimovic: Man U or AC Milan?

The entire international football community is patiently waiting for an announcement from Ziatan Ibrahimovic on where he’ll play next season. The potential suitors have been dwindled down to two clubs: Manchester United or AC Milan, as both have put very lucrative contract offers on the table. Ibrahimovic told reporters following Sweden’s 3-0 victory over Wales this weekend that his decision will be made public on June 7th.

Man U Goalie de Gea Isn’t Moving to Real Madrid

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has reportedly told others that his possible move to Real Madrid isn’t going to take place this transfer period. In the 2015 summer transfer window, de Gea almost signed with Real Madrid but instead returned to Old Trafford on a new deal. Current team manager Zinedane Zidane feels good about Real Madrid’s current situation in the net, which forces de Gea to remain with Manchester United for another season.

U.S. Gets Copa America Reprieve

The United States National Team had to be disappointed with the effort given in their first Copa America Centenario match, as they lost 3-0 to Colombia. Their position in the tournament improved greatly after Costa Rica and Paraguay played to a scoreless tie, as the U.S. control their own destiny heading into Tuesday’s match against Costa Rica. If they win their remaining Group A matches, then the United States will secure a spot in the knockout round. Costa Rica is coming into Tuesday’s match shorthanded, as center-back Kendall Watson received a red card in the closing minutes of the match with Paraguay and cannot play. The squad is already without injured star goalkeeper Keylor Navas and defenseman Giancarlo Gonzalez, as the lineup options are dwindling.
